Barbara Nienaltowski

Media consultant and award-winning television producer Barbara Nienaltowski draws on 20 years of network news experience to provide clients with attention-getting media messages and effective communications strategies. "I help corporate executives, and others who find themselves in the media hot seat, master the nuances of a first-rate on-camera presentation."

Ms. Nienaltowski's extensive journalism background includes producing stints at ABC's Good Morning America and CBS's The Early Show, where she prepared reporters and anchors for live interviews with a wide range of guests including: former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, singer Luther Vandross, comedian David Alan Grier, tennis star Martina Navratilova, and civil rights activist Ruby Bridges, among many others.

However, it was her work with less-famous interview subjects that piqued her interest in improving on-air performance. "If it was a feature or informational story, I helped nervous guests with their on-camera presentations. I realized how much better the live segments were as a result."

Ms. Nienaltowski became a specialist in consumer reporting during her sixteen years at ABC News 20/20, where she participated in many high-profile investigations. Teamed with top network anchors and correspondents, including Barbara Walters, Hugh Downs, John Stossel, Stone Phillips, and Connie Chung, she developed first-hand experience in diverse interview techniques and styles. She crafted interview strategy, wrote interview questions, and often conducted on-camera interviews. "Not every interview is a 'hostile' one, but it never hurts to be prepared and to know what to expect."

In 2001, Ms. Nienaltowski formed her own company, Intensive Care Productions, to take on independent projects, including the award-winning, one-hour documentary Catching A Killer: Colon Cancer, produced in association with the American Cancer Society which aired on Discovery Health Channel during Colon Cancer Awareness Month.

Her media-training projects include a workshop for "Diverse Partners, Common Goals", a groundbreaking national conference to promote antibiotic resistance awareness, organized by the California Medical Association Foundation and sponsored by the Centers for Disease Control.

Ms. Nienaltowski's investigative work has been honored with an Emmy nomination, a Cine Golden Eagle award and an award for Best Consumer Journalism from the National Press Club. She graduated Ithaca College with a degree in Communications Management.
